Our Journey So Far

All three members of Trig Point Theatre met in 2012 after sucessfully auditioning for the BA (Hons) Acting for Stage and Screen course at Edinburgh Napier and Queen Margaret Universities. We formed Trig Point Theatre in 2013 and immediately set about acquiring a play that would be ideal for our group to produce  and perform at Edinburgh Fringe 2014.

It was through this searching we met Mikey Burnett: a 29 year old writer from Bonnyrigg (just outside Edinburgh). Last year, Mikey was on an attachment with The Traverse Theatre as part of the ‘The Traverse Fifty'. He has written quite a number of plays, both comedy and drama, however his plays cannot be compartmentalised into these simple genres. He writes with a delicate balance of subtle humour and real life tragedy that sees him create characters of great depth, complexity and richness.

We were instantly excited by the prospect of working with Mikey and have been delighted with the work he has produced with us. In early 2014 Mikey brought in fellow writer Joseph with whom he collaborated with to create Penguin Love, a play which was produced by Theatre Stratos in September. The show enjoyed two sell out runs at The Space in Glasgow.

Joseph, also on an attachment with The Traverse Theatre as part of the ‘The Traverse Fifty' saw his short play The Charcoal Rooms performed at The Traverse in January of 2013 and again in August as part of The Edinburgh Fringe.

Joseph (currently based in Budapest) has contributed massively to the script, and is another example of the talented playwrights that are emerging in Scotland. Trig Point feel very lucky to have these two writers on board, and cannot wait to get started at the Fringe this summer.
